What is a Thermal Infrared Inspection?
Also known as a thermographic or IR scanning, an infrared scan is a non-invasive inspection that utilizes thermal imaging to help identify hotspots in your electrical equipment. Using infrared cameras, the technician will capture images of key areas around your electrical system, such as load centers, motor control centers, and other critical operating systems. This inspection helps identify areas of abnormal electrical resistance or imbalanced loads that may indicate an increased potential for an arc flash or electrical fire.
What’s Included in an Infrared Inspection
When you schedule an electrical infrared inspection with Herzig Engineering, you’re getting professionalism built on training and expertise. Our consultant technicians are qualified per electrical safety standards and NFPA 70 (NEC) trained, ensuring every inspection is performed with the highest standards of safety and accuracy.
Stay OSHA and NFPA Compliant
Infrared inspections not only keep your equipment and personnel safe, but they can also keep your business compliant with OSHA and NFPA requirements. For instance, NFPA 70B requires an infrared inspection to be performed annually on all electrical equipment (at a minimum). This annual inspection helps create a documented history that can support audits and risk mitigation. By maintaining these records, you demonstrate due diligence, reduce liability, and show insurers and regulatory bodies that you are taking the proper steps to protect both your people and your operations.
